The Rubrum’s Northwoods Maple is a hardy red maple selection. It has a rounded to oval form, with an average texture. In the spring, showy flowers emerge along the stems. Leaves emerge red, turning green in the summer months. In the fall, leaves turn vibrant red to orange in color.
This tree tolerates a range of soils from sand to clay, but has a preference for acidic soils. Aside from occasional pruning the Northwoods Maple is a relatively low maintenance tree. It can be used as an accent tree or a specimen tree.
